International Day of Happiness
We are living through what can be difficult times for many people and sometimes, it can be easy to overlook the simple pleasures of life. Today we are celebrating International Day Of Happiness by asking our team what some of the little things are that bring a smile to their faces. Here are some of their responses:
"As our office is close to the Thames, I like to take a little time at some point in the day to see the river. It looks different every day and I find the reflections of the light in the water, the changing colour of the sky and the surrounding buildings mesmerising. If the time is right for low tide then a quick walk on the foreshore is even more special."
"I always find myself smiling whenever I’m midway across a bridge over the Thames. Just the thought that I get to experience this amazing city, to live here and, moreover, to practice architecture here is still a daily source of joy. And travelling from the office to our central London sites affords me this pleasure quite often!"
"A simple joy is just taking the time to read a book, especially if I’m outside somewhere, in the sun."
"Creating things with purpose; making or building something both beautiful and useful. From something small at home to a whole house - I guess that's why I chose to become an Architect!"
“Happiness is waking up every day to my dog, coming to the office to receive unconditional love from our office puppy and coming back home to receive the same unconditional love from my own dog again. It is scientifically proven that petting a dog lowers cortisol levels, which is the stress hormone, but also increases oxytocin levels, which is the happiness hormone. Dogs are a bottomless reservoir of happiness.”
"Sharing a meal with family and friends."
"Looking at old videos of my kids."
"Spending time with my family and loved ones makes me smile."
"Spring, when all the flowers start to bloom."
"Completing TwinMotion CGI renders, site visits, Romeo (the office dog) and travelling."
"A eureka moment (or when something just clicks).”
"A last-minute winner for my team.”
"When a pre-emptive measure you took a while back pays dividends.”
