MEET THE TEAM: ALICIA PELL
In the latest of our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we talk to Architectural Assistant, Alicia Pell.
What got you into architecture originally?
From an early age I’ve been creative with a keen interest in art, design and problem-solving. I chose architecture as this allows me to explore that creative interest and problem-solving process in my day-to-day working life.
Describe your role at Lees Associates
I joined Lees Associates in 2020 as a Part II Architectural Assistant, after completing my MArch. Since joining the practice I have worked on a wide range of projects including various projects within Harrods and high-end residential. My role involves assisting with producing design packages for planning, tender and construction.
Where do your particular passions, skills and interests lie?
I have always been drawn to historic buildings and the process of reuse and regeneration. In particular the idea of bringing a building back to life, and redefining its purpose by creating new spaces for modern living but whilst still respecting its history and craftsmanship. Another interest of mine throughout my education has been the effect of the design of spaces on human well-being. My university thesis focused on these ideas, putting them into practice in my hometown.
What do you enjoy about what you do?
I particularly enjoy developing the detail side of a project: the challenge of solving problems as they arise and the satisfaction of seeing these intricate details in a project built and brought to life.
What are your plans for the future?
My future goals initially involve expanding my technical skills, knowledge and experience, to enable me to complete my RIBA Part III qualification.
What do you get up to outside of the office?
I am an active and self-motivated person and enjoy setting myself new challenges, I have always been a keen equestrian and have competed in show-jumping since the age of four, and regularly ride for pleasure. I am also a consistent runner, completing a number of half-marathons and have set myself a new challenge of completing a marathon in the near future. I also enjoy baking elaborate cakes in my spare time.
